The Consumers Federation of Kenya (Cofek) nominee will sit on the National Cyber-security Steering Committee (NCSC). The development is contained in a letter to Cofek from the Communications Commission of Kenya (CCK) of 31st July 2012.
The Kenya Information and Communications Act CAP411A mandates CCK to develop a national cyber crime management frame work through the establishment of a national Computer Incident Response Team (CIRT).
CCK set up the Kenya Computer Incident Response Team Coordination Centre (KE-CIRT/CC) whose mandate is to offer advisories and coordinate responses to cyber security matter at the national level in collaboration with relevant actors locally, regionally and internationally. The KE-CIRT/CC is also the national cyber security management point of contact for Kenya.
CCK recently formed a National Cybersecurity Steering Committee(NCSC) whose main purpose is to participate in the implementation of the KE-CIRT/CC projects as well be a part of the national team to facilitate coordination and collaboration in the response to cybersecurity incidents, among other cyber crime management activities.
The National Cybersecurity Steering Committee (NCSC) is scheduled to meet on August 8.
