My name is Kasichana Mumba. I'm writing to you in relation to an incident that occurred in Homa Bay county on the 21st of December, 2016 at around 9.45 pm.
In the company of a few friends and bloggers, we traveled to Rusinga Island for the Rusinga Festival, hosted and produced by Anne Eboso.
We were booked into the Blue Ridge Hotel on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd floors. The last group, which I was part of, checked in at 8.30pm. We went to have dinner at around 9 pm, where we were all together until 9.40pm.
The alarm of our rooms being broken into was raised by Rayhab Gachango, who had gone to her room to get her phone. When we all rushed to our rooms, we realised that money, laptops, phones and cameras had been stolen.
The hotel management was extremely lax in aiding us in our plight. The hotel manager, Helen Simbi, took her time in calling the police, who came at around 10.30pm. By then, if there was any way of retrieving our valuables, the chance had already passed us by. The search of the rooms at around 11pm did not yield anything.
Our statements were taken by the police the next day on 22nd December, 2016. We travelled back to Nairobi on the 24th of December, and since then, we have not received any communication from either the police or the hotel management on the issue.
We would like to seek compensation for the valuables we lost and also receive an apology from the hotel on how they handled the whole unfortunate incident and us after the robbery. To date, all efforts of having any conversation on this issue have been met with either complacency or lack of co-operation from the management of the hotel.
All assistance you can accord us would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Kasichana Mumba
